The Mencigar family, Krašči 1947 The Mencigar family name originates from Večeslavci village in the Goričko region, where most Slovenian Mencigars come from. The late Alojz Mencigar (Hung. Menczigar Alajos), the grandfather of the restaurant owner, also comes from this village. Alojz worked as a miller in Topolovci and married his first wife Jožefa who inherited some land in Krašči. Together they built a mill on the Ledava brook, and today, this spot is covered by the Ledava lake . When the water is low, the foundations of the former mill become visible (see picture below).

The Mencigar Mill, Krašči after World War 2 There were 14 children in the Mencigar family and they all went abroad in order to make a living – they are scattered from Germany to Australia. Diligence and hard work made them to succeed in their lives.
